policy focus-

active and healthy ageing: making the partnership work

On 30 March 2011, hanover organised a policy debate on the European Commission’s initiative for the Pilot European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing. The discussion was hosted by hanover Brussels MD Christian Hierholzer and was joined on the panel by Maria Iglesia-Gomez, Head of Unit and leading Commission official on this initiative as well as Lambert van Nistelrooij MEP and Co-chair of the EP Intergroup on Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity.

Over 30 representatives from a variety of sectors and stakeholder groups attended the debate. Participants had the opportunity to discuss their concerns and expectations on the initiative. There was strong agreement among the participants that an integrated effort by all political levels and stakeholder groups will be required to make the partnership work and to achieve its ambitious objective of increasing the "healthy life years of European citizens" by two years before 2020. Further challenges identified during the discussion included: interoperability, different standards, fragmentation of funding, and inconsistent initiatives.
