policy focus- healthy ageing: making partnership work

On 30 March 2011, hanover organised a policy debate on the European Commission’s initiative on the Pilot European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing. The expert panel comprised of Maria Iglesia-Gomez, Head of Unit and leading Commission official on this initiative, MEP Lambert van Nistelrooij, Co-chair of the EP Intergroup on Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity.

Over 30 representatives from a variety of sectors and stakeholder groups attended the debate. Participants had the opportunity to discuss their concerns and expectations on this initiative. There was strong agreement among the participants that an integrated effort by all stakeholders and political levels will be required to make the partnership work and to achieve its ambitious objective of increasing the Healthy Life Years of European citizens by 2 years before 2020. Interoperability, different standards, fragmentation of funding, and multiple initiatives not always connected were identified as further challenges.
